School-Based Telehealth Program
Our School-Based Telehealth Program lets your child get Children’s Health expertise right from school. Your child can have the care they need without missing learning time by leaving school for an appointment.
Conditions We Treat
Trusted pediatric care, right from the school nurse's office
Program success
Since 2014, our School-Based Telehealth Program has:
Provided more than 19,000 virtual health visits for students
Expanded into 200+ schools in 28 school districts
Achieved a 94% satisfaction rate from parents
High-quality care, faster
School-based telehealth can treat certain medical problems at school. The school nurse uses the tablet and software we provide to start an appointment for your child with one of our available providers. Within a few minutes, we can see and treat your child.
We welcome you to listen in on your child's telehealth appointment. And we always provide a visit summary to you and your child's primary care provider.
Some school-based virtual visits may require a follow-up appointment with your child’s doctor. But usually, accessing Children’s Health’s urgent care providers from school helps your child get the treatment they need as soon as possible.
Cost-effective wellness
At Children’s Health, we believe every child deserves access to excellent, affordable health care. If you have commercial insurance or Medicaid, Children’s Health will verify your insurance coverage. With Medicaid, your visit will be completely covered. With commercial insurance you may only be responsible for your office visit copay. If you do not have health insurance, we encourage you to continue using school telehealth. An invoice will be sent to you after your visit. Discounts are available when paid at the time of visit, and no student will be turned away. If you have questions about billing, please call 844-483-5363, option 1.
Our providers also write prescriptions for generic medications that cost less – making your child’s care more accessible. Medicaid and private health insurance providers cover any necessary prescriptions.
A track record of success
We’ve been providing in-school virtual visits since 2014. We have a proven track record of providing effective, efficient telehealth care to students across Texas, with over 19,000 visits since the program began.
We also have experience integrating health testing into our telehealth visits. We’ve always offered flu and strep tests with this program.
The school nurses we work with deliver these tests during the telehealth exam. Our interactive iPads enable the school nurse to send your child's vital signs to your Children's Health provider so they will have all the information they need.
We are proud partners with over 200 schools in North Texas through continuous growth, we may be in your child’s school too. To find out if your school is participating in School-Based Telehealth, ask your school nurse or call 844-4TELEM (844-483-5363).
