Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery
At Children's Health℠, we provide a streamlined approach when caring for newborns, including micro-preemies, through to adolescents.
From appendicitis to chest wall tumors to trauma, our pediatric surgeons are the leading experts in highly specialized areas such as head and neck surgery, non-cardiac thoracic surgery, abdominal and gastrointestinal surgery, ontological surgery as well as genitourinary surgery. Many of these procedures are now performed with minimally invasive surgery.
Your child will receive surgical care that is found in only a handful of hospitals in the nation. Children’s Medical Center Dallas is a Level I designated hospital by the American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification™ Quality Improvement Program, making us among five in Texas and one of 53 in the country to receive this verification, which is the highest level of distinction that a pediatric hospital can receive. Children’s Medical Center Plano is a Level II designated hospital and is the first to achieve this distinction in North Texas. Children’s Health is the first and only pediatric health system nationwide to achieve Level I and II designations at multiple sites.
Level 1 Trauma Center
Children’s Medical Center Dallas is the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center in North Texas. As a comprehensive regional resource for injuries, our Level I Trauma Center:
Has 24-hour, in-house general surgeons, and prompt availability of other specialists
Offers leadership in injury prevention
Provides continuing education to trauma team members
Assesses quality of care on a regular basis
Works with UT Southwestern faculty to research new innovations in trauma care
Streamlined and comprehensive approach
Everything we do is geared towards children and their families, with a goal of attending to each child’s unique needs with the most advanced and reliable surgical care available today. Our team provides the most up-to-date, proven and advanced care available. Working closely with other departments and programs allows us to streamline care and create a less stressful environment for our patients. As one of the only facilities in the region to offer pediatric surgical services for children’s head, neck and thyroid conditions, we are able to treat the the most complex surgical cases.
An integral part of the care team
Our pediatric surgeons are important members of your child’s care team, working closely with other programs and departments across the system. Through detailed coordination, our patients are cared for and treated by multidisciplinary teams with the ability to offer expertise in multiple fields. Additionally, our surgeons participate in a number of clinical trials and regularly contribute to ongoing research, setting the standard for excellence in pediatric general and thoracic surgery.
As a physician myself, I am familiar with all that can occur during and after an operation. The team at Children’s Health was so kind, answered all our questions and provided safe and thorough care for my son. We know it was the right decision.
