How to prepare for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit:
Your child’s hair should be clean and dry. No hair oil or gels.
A parent or guardian is required to remain in the room with your child throughout the stay. This person must be over 18 years of age and be aware of your child’s condition. No other children (under 18) may stay overnight.
Length of stay varies. The average stay is 2 days. Your physician will determine your length of stay based on the clinical situation.
What to bring:
Comfort: Toys, special blankets, personal items and games from home can make your child feel more comfortable.
Medication: Your child should continue any medication as usual before coming to the hospital, unless otherwise instructed by their physician. Please bring all medications in the original prescription bottle.
Hygiene: We provide basic toiletries, but often patient families prefer their own. Your child should bring a set of warm pajamas that zip or button, personal toiletries such as hair conditioner (for after the study), toothbrush, soap and deodorant as desired.
Meals are provided for the patient via room service between 7am-8pm. Children’s Health will do everything we can to follow your child’s dietary needs.
