Former Oncology patient’s sister asks you to donate blood, get typed in honor of her brother's treatment

Hi! My name is Amanda. I am currently working towards my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The inspiration for my project came from my brother, Gavin, who successfully battled leukemia after five years of intense chemotherapy. He received dozens of blood products throughout his treatment from selfless volunteers. At one point, the need for a stem cell transplant arose and I was not a match. Luckily, the final chemotherapy treatment worked but we realized the need for more donors to join Be the Match.

For my Girl Scout Gold Award Project, I’m leading both a blood drive and a Be The Match donor registration drive at the YMCA in Flower Mound from on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
