Cancer patient finds his perfect match

In 2017, Sebastian was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and began multiple rounds of chemotherapy over two years. During his stay at Children’s Health℠, Sebastian enjoyed visits from the Dallas Cowboys, playing games on the computer and enjoying other fun activities with new friends before he was discharged in 2019.
At the end of 2019, Sebastian’s ALL relapsed, so he was immediately put on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), formerly known as Be The Match, registry to give him a better chance for a cure.
Sebastian's care team and NMDP found him his perfect stem cell match and soon after, he had his transplant. Despite a long road to recovery, Sebastian never gave up, enjoying video games and horse therapy throughout his remission. He looks forward to playing football and soccer, thanks to the selfless donation from his bone marrow donor. Sebastian met the donor who saved his life, Zach, at our Dallas campus on Feb. 14, which also happens to be National Donor Day.
